Pair with a machine that already runs the agent

How to set this up

  1. The agent must already be installed and running on that machine.
  2. On the machine, run the command below. It prints an address, a code and a fingerprint. The code works once, within 15 minutes.
    sudo vantage pair
  3. Copy what it printed and paste it into "Paste what it printed" on the Address step: Vantage fills in the address and the code. Or type them: enter a label, the address (it starts with https://) and the code. For the agent on this Mac, the address is https://127.0.0.1:9736.
  4. Press Pair. Vantage checks the agent's certificate fingerprint and pins it, so nothing can pretend to be that machine later.
  5. The fingerprint shown after pairing should match the one the machine printed.

Something not working?

  • The code is wrong or has run out. A code works once and for 15 minutes. Run sudo vantage pair on the machine and paste the new one.
  • sudo vantage pair is not found: the agent there is an older build, or that machine's sudo does not search the folder the command is in (/usr/bin/vantage on Linux, /usr/local/bin/vantage on a Mac). Run the full command shown on the Pairing command step instead.
  • The address does not answer: check that the machine is on, that the agent runs, and that TCP port 9736 is open from this Mac. On a Mac, System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network must have Vantage switched on.
  • The machine changed address (DHCP): run sudo vantage pair again; it prints the address it has now.
