Delete your data
How to set this up
- To drop one machine and its data: open it in Fleet, press Forget, tick "Also delete this machine's metrics, logs and playbook history from" your server, then press "Forget it?". The box is never ticked for you. Without it the machine is forgotten and its logs and metrics stay on the server until retention ends. The AI-client audit (the record of what an AI client asked Vantage to do) is kept, because it is not tied to one machine: an entry records the client, the tool and its arguments, and many are about the whole fleet, so there is no one machine's share to cut out. It goes with the app's data folder (step 6).
- If the box is greyed out, the observability server is older than this option. Open Settings > Observability server, press Update, then forget the machine. Until then the machine can only be forgotten without the purge.
- To take the agent off a machine, run this on the machine itself, from the folder that holds
install-agent.sh. It deletes the agent's identity and certificate, its pairing and enrolment records, its audit log, its binary and service, and the agent's user:sudo ./install-agent.sh --uninstall /etc/vantage/config.tomlstays, because it is yours (it holds the machine's ceiling and your publisher key). The command prints where it is. To remove it too:sudo rm -rf /etc/vantage.- To take the observability server off its host, open Settings > Observability server > Uninstall and choose "Uninstall and delete the data". "Uninstall, keep the data" leaves the logs and metrics on that host.
- Vantage keeps nothing anywhere else. There is no Vantage server, so there is no account to close. The app's own records (its database with the AI-client audit, settings and downloads) are on this computer: quit Vantage and delete its data folder,
~/Library/Application Support/com.avyra.vantageon a Mac or~/.local/share/com.avyra.vantageon Linux. Its secrets are not in that folder: on a Mac open Keychain Access, search for com.avyra.vantage and delete every item it lists (this app's key and, when it moved there, the Secure Enclave key's entry, the Grafana, cloud, alert and relay secrets); on Linux delete the com.avyra.vantage entries in Passwords and Keys.
Something not working?
- The purge said some of it was not deleted: the machine is already forgotten and cannot be forgotten again. The message says which part failed and what stays (logs 14 days and metrics 90 days by default, until retention ends). Fix the server (Settings > Observability server > Check again, or Update) and remove the rest on its host by hand, or let retention end.
- Loki shows the deleted logs as gone at once but removes them from its disk within about a day. Prometheus deletes metrics right away.
- The machine's name has a quote, a backslash or a brace in it: the purge refuses it before anything is forgotten. Forget it without the box, or rename it first.
- A machine that belongs to a team's server cannot be purged from your app: the team's owner holds its data. Ask them.
- The history the purge deletes from this app is the playbook ledger of that machine. The AI-client audit is not tied to one machine and stays until you delete the app's data folder (step 6).
- A machine that was never forgotten in the app but whose agent you uninstalled keeps its logs and metrics on the server. Forget it in the app and tick the box.
