Relay
How to set this up
- Use the relay only for machines behind a router with no tailnet. Everything else is simpler by another way.
- Type an address that reaches the observability server from the internet: a public IP or a domain name whose port is forwarded to it.
- Tick "I understand" and switch the relay on.
- Press Save, then press Update on the observability server so it uses the setting.
- Add machines from Add machine > "It cannot be reached directly". Machines that joined are listed on this page.
Something not working?
- Saving changes the setting only. The observability server must be updated to apply it.
- A machine does not join: check that the port is forwarded and the address is reachable from that machine's network.
- The address changed: use a domain name or a DHCP reservation so kits and joined machines keep working.
- Revoke a kit you no longer trust from the Add machine step that shows it.
